The children at the St. Martin Daycare Center in Adenau were overjoyed: As part of the 24-hour race in May, the “Dauer Adenauer Forst Friends” group led by Norman Handt raised an impressive 1,310 euros, which Nürburgring 1927 GmbH & Co. KG generously matched, bringing the total to 2,500 euros.
Barbara Fyrnys-Kutsch, director of the daycare center in Adenau, gratefully accepted the donation on behalf of the support association. The money will be used to further enhance the daycare center’s outdoor area: Plans are underway to build a water play area for sunny days. Fyrnys-Kutsch is also committed to sharing the donation: Half of the amount will go to the Friends of the Hocheifelschule Adenau; this approach is to be maintained in the future as well, in consultation with all parties involved.
“We are very grateful that we’ve been allowed to use the daycare center’s and school’s parking lots in recent years until the campgrounds open on Monday. Since I’m a father myself, I had the idea three years ago that we’d like to give something back to the local children, and we spontaneously began collecting donations among the campers,” said Norman Handt of the “Dauer Adenauer Forst Freunde.” The group from the Euskirchen/Cologne/Erftkreis area consists of about 30 people and has been coming to the 24-hour race in this configuration for five years; Handt himself has even been attending every year for 27 years. With his son Nino, the next generation is also in the starting blocks: at almost five years old, he already has four years of Adenauer Forst experience and has been attending the race in person since he was very young.
Ingo Böder, Managing Director of Nürburgring 1927 GmbH & Co. KG, adds: “We’re very happy to support this effort—the campers consistently leave their sites spotlessly clean and ensure that the ‘newcomers’ do the same. We recognize that an event of this magnitude requires the support of local residents, and we’d like to express our gratitude by contributing our share of the donation to the daycare center and the Hocheifel School.”
