For 16 young people, a new chapter in their lives begins on 1 August: they are starting their apprenticeships at the Nürburgring, thereby laying the foundations for their professional futures at one of Europe’s most extraordinary workplaces. Whether at Nürburgring 1927 GmbH & Co. KG or Nürburgring Hotels & Ferienpark – the range of apprenticeship roles is as diverse as the areas of work within this renowned events and leisure destination.
The new recruits gathered in front of the Nürburgring’s info°center for their first group photo. For visitors from all over the world, it is often the first port of call at the legendary race track. For the new apprentices, however, this is where their professional careers begin and where they get a glimpse behind the scenes of a destination that is far more than just a race track. Over the coming years, they will get to know a wide variety of departments and areas of responsibility – and experience the Nürburgring from a completely new perspective.
A workplace offering exceptional diversity
Anyone starting their apprenticeship at the Nürburgring is making a conscious choice for diversity and for far more than a traditional training organisation. Motorsport events, concerts, trade fairs, corporate events, tourism, the hotel industry and catering ensure a varied range of tasks and an international working environment throughout the year. Hardly any other training location brings together so many different professional fields in one place.
“During my time as a temporary assistant at the info°center, I quickly realised just how varied and diverse the work at the Nürburgring is. That’s why I’m really looking forward to starting my apprenticeship as an events manager and actively helping to create special experiences for guests and visitors,” says 17-year-old Sophie Löhr, who has started her apprenticeship at Nürburgring 1927 GmbH & Co. KG and previously worked as a temporary assistant at the Nürburgring’s info°center. 19-year-old Lilli Sophia Schmidt, who is starting her apprenticeship at Nürburgring Hotels & Ferienpark, adds from her own perspective: “For me, the Nürburgring combines exciting events, people from all over the world and a unique working environment. The fact that I can start my apprenticeship as an events manager at Nürburgring Hotels & Ferienpark in a place that inspires so many people makes me proud and really motivates me. I’m particularly looking forward to helping organise events and learning how to create unforgettable experiences for guests.”
Two weeks full of behind-the-scenes insights
To ensure that all new recruits get to know the full diversity of the destination, the trainees begin with a two-week induction and training phase. As well as an introduction to the various Nürburgring companies and presentations from the individual departments, the programme includes visits to the ring°kartbahn, insights into Nürburgring Formula training and a day of practical work with track management. This gives the young professionals a comprehensive overview of the numerous areas of responsibility and companies at the Nürburgring right from the start of their training.
Apprenticeships at the Nürburgring – diverse careers, diverse prospects
Since 1 August, a total of 44 apprentices have been undertaking their training within Destination Nürburgring. They are learning their trades in various specialist fields. At Nürburgring 1927 GmbH & Co. KG, trainees are being trained as event management specialists, office management and retail specialists, automotive mechatronics technicians, IT specialists specialising in system integration, event technology specialists and electronics technicians for energy and building services. In addition, the company offers a dual degree programme in Business Administration – Trade Fair, Congress & Event Management.
At Nürburgring Hotels & Ferienpark, trainees are trained as hospitality specialists, hotel management specialists, chefs, specialists in restaurant and event catering, and event management specialists.
The Nürburgring destination also offers a wide range of career prospects within other companies. These include not only Nürburgring 1927 GmbH & Co. KG as the operating company and Nürburgring Hotels & Ferienpark, but also nürburgring.tv GmbH & Co. KG and Nürburgring eSports GmbH & Co. KG, which complement the destination’s broad spectrum with their expertise in media production and digital motorsport. With around 350 permanent staff and more than 1,000 temporary workers, the Nürburgring destination is one of the region’s largest employers.
