Rad am Ring: The biggest offer that ever existed

Next weekend is showtime: The 16. Edition of Rad am Ring cycling festival is taking place - and the offer is more extensive than ever before. In addition to the heart of the event, the 24-hour races on tarmac and off-road, the amateur races and the second edition of the mountain bike marathon, eBike am Ring complements the festival as a new event component this year and offers seminars, workshops and test opportunities in this bike segment, which supposedly is also and above all of interest to visitors and supporters. In addition, we compiled for you an extended supporting program with pump track, trial show, live music and expert interviews.

more information

Cycling on a car race track - this fascination has meanwhile become a permanent fixture in the racing calendar of a growing fan base of cycling fans: the number of participants in Rad am Ring is continuously growing. This year, race participation at the Nürburgring is expected to reach a new record: "We are already running short of slots for the 24-hour races. Especially if the number of late entries is approximately the same as in recent years”, enthuses head of organization Hanns-Martin Fraas. However, there are still a few remaining slots, both for the 24-hour races and for the other disciplines such as amateur races, mountain bike marathon, time trial or touring rides.

Attractive program for active riders, visitors and supporters

But not only ambitious, competition-oriented cyclists will get their money's worth at the Nürburgring from July 27 to 29. The offer has expanded again in 2018. The most striking innovation: the new event component eBike am Ring, an event focusing on the currently fastest growing bike group, the e-bike. Visitors, supporters, race cyclists taking a break... everyone has the opportunity to try out motorized cycling, get some information on this type of bikes or simply collect some relaxed kilometers. On Saturday morning, the legendary Nordschleife of the Nürburgring is reserved for e-bikers, various exhibitors at the festival’s Expo offer free test bikes, there will be guided tours in the surrounding area, signposted test tracks and the possibility of downloading gpx tracks to your mobile phone and explore the Eifel region on your own. In addition, there will be lectures by experts on which e-bike is suitable for which purpose, workshops to improve your riding skills and - interesting not only for e-bikers - on the proper adjustment of the riding position for a comfortable riding experience. During the entire event, the holiday regions of Rhineland-Palatinate will present the varied range of tours this federal state offers to e-bikers. "We are very pleased that the first e-bike festival in Rhineland-Palatinate is finally starting," says Stefan Zindler, managing director of Rheinland-Pfalz Tourismus GmbH. "Our regions offer many great tours for e-bikers through unique cultural and natural landscapes or along picturesque rivers. We present these tours to the visitors of ,eBike am Ring'."

Varied offer from pump track to barbecue to mountain bike national league
In addition, there will be the opportunity to test your riding skills on a pump track, a undulating off-road bike oval, for the first time this year - and to get tips from the trial experts of Bikes in Motion, who will also show their skills several times within the extensive supporting program. Proven features such as the barbecue on Saturday with live music, the Kids Race for children and a constantly growing exhibition area with a wide range of bikes (which can also be tested), accessories, sports nutrition and clothing will be retained, supplemented by attractive innovations such as the opportunity to test the current car models of our long-standing partner Škoda. In short: The bike festival at the Nürburgring stands on a proven foundation and takes another step towards the great goal of offering 360 degrees of cycling - cycling for everyone, no matter whether competition-oriented, occasional rider, commuter or not (yet) an active cyclist, as those who prefer to watch the pros can also do so this year: due to a series race of the MTB Bundesliga (German national league) on Sunday.

About Rad am Ring
Rad am Ring is a cycling event that has been held at the Nürburgring since 2003. The track leads through both the ultra-modern Formula 1 arena and the legendary Nordschleife. At its heart are the 24-hour races on the traffic-free, partially illuminated race track and with team quarters in the pit lane. In 2018, in addition to the ultra- and long-distance events at Rad am Ring, a series race of Rad-Bundesliga (German national cycling league), various amateur races, a time trial, for the second time a mountain bike marathon and touring rides without timekeeping will be offered. The amateur races are part of the German Cycling Cup, Germany's biggest amateur race series. Rad am Ring will be supplemented in 2018 by the event element eBike am Ring.
