Events in the anniversary year 2017
2017 will be all about the Nürburgring’s 90th anniversary, so visitors and fans can look forward to a packed and varied event calendar. Motorsport highlights like the FIA WEC – 6 Hours of Nürburgring, the VLN championship, the ADAC Zurich 24-Hour Race and the AvD Oldtimer- and ADAC Truck Grand Prix all make the hearts of racing fans beat faster - but the programme beyond roaring engines has a lot to offer as well. Music events like Nürburgring Olé and the electronic dance music festival “New Horizons” come with special sounds of their own and guarantee a fantastic party atmosphere.
Pure motorsport for the 90th anniversary
Following tradition, the motorsport season at the Nürburgring opens with the test and set-up session on 18 March also in the anniversary year. The first of nine races of the VLN Endurance Championship (25 March) is next on the agenda, offering racing up close as visitors are allowed in the drivers’ paddock and on the starting grid. Fans can then look forward to the ultimate motorsport spectacle through day and night, the ADAC Zurich 24-Hour Race on 25-28 May. Visitors truly get their money’s worth from this unique combination of racing and party around the Nordschleife and Grand Prix track. The FIA WEC – 6 Hours of Nürburgring race on 14-16 July is another highlight of this season. Featuring cars of leading manufacturers as well as international top drivers, the endurance racing series is one of the most outstanding events in the world’s motorsport calendar.
Vehicles of an entirely different weight class are in focus at the event from 30 June to 2 July. The ADAC Truck Grand Prix is a genuine crowd puller and an integral part of the season at the Nürburgring, where spectacular motorsport takes place throughout the year in a unique atmosphere. Events like the AvD Oldtimer Grand Prix (11-13 August), which invites visitors to go on a trip through the history of racing cars, and the ADAC GT Masters (4-6 August), which boasts super sports cars with up to 650 hp by Audi, Lamborghini and the like, are proof that the Nürburgring offers just the right thing for the heart and eye of every car lover.
Fans and celebrities of the motorsport and tuning scene meet every year at the SPORT1 Trackday on 23 July to put lots of rubber on the track. Fans of smoking tyres will also enjoy themselves at several competition runs of the Nürburgring Drift Cup (kick-off: 15-17 April).
Motorcycle fans won’t have to take a back seat either in the Nürburgring’s anniversary year: the traditional opener of the motorcycle season, the “Rev up” event on 2 April, is sure to again lure thousands of bikers to the Eifel mountains. After an ecumenical service, all participants will do a free lap together on the legendary Nürburgring Nordschleife.
90 years: Celebrating the anniversary of the Nürburgring myth
The Nürburgring celebrates its 90th anniversary with historic racing and the opening of a special exhibition at the interactive motorsport museum ring°werk. Nine decades after its inauguration on 18 June 1927, the Nürburgring Classic provides the perfect setting for the official anniversary event. On 16-18 June, classic cars built as early as in the 1920s will compete on the legendary Eifel race track. Apart from historic motorcycle races, a new edition of the ADAC Eifel race will be the highlight of the weekend. The endurance race of classic racing cars is set to determine the successor to the likes of Caracciola and Fangio.
New sounds: Electro and Schlager party at the “Ring”
In 2017, the Nürburgring will have lots of different sounds to offer beyond the roar of engines. With the electronic dance music festival “New Horizons” on 25-26 August, the “Ring” literally explores new horizons. The festival is also the last in a series of events whose highlight is the party in the Eifel. Fans of German Schlager and party music are bound to have a great time a week earlier at Nürburgring Olé (18-20 August), Germany’s biggest party, which boasts brilliant entertainers like Jürgen Drews and Micki Krause.
Sporting challenges in the "Green Hell"
Completely without oil and petrol, runners and cyclists take on the challenges of the “Green Hell” with pure muscle power again in 2017. In the world’s biggest obstacle course, the Fisherman’s Friend StrongmanRun at the Nürburgring on 20 May, the participants will struggle through slush, mud and foam, climb great heights and celebrate an unparalleled shared experience when they reach the finish line. At the Rad am Ring event (28-30 July), athletes tackle the Nordschleife on two wheels. Apart from the races that are open to everyone, the 24-hour race has achieved cult status among the teams and participants camping in and around the drivers’ paddock.
Thanks to this huge variety, the Nürburgring will offer events to suit every taste in its anniversary year 2017. Already a legend in the world of motorsport, the “Ring” has long become a multi-event location for the entire year thanks to its varied calendar, and fascinates fans and visitors with national and international top events.
