187 cars registered for the 2017 VLN season

Only a few days before the start of the 41st season of the VLN endurance championship Nürburgring on 25th March, the total of 187 cars* are registered for this worldwide biggest mass sports racing series. Much more than at the same time in 2016. “The huge interest in the VLN endurance championship Nürburgring is unbroken”, says Karl Mauer, VLN e.V. & Co. oHG Chief Representative. “The positive trend of the season 2016 continues and the VLN consistently increases its popularity.”

There is a great variety in cubic capacity and performance categories in the VLN. The tremendous and unique range starts from series production based touring cars up to the most sophisticated GT3 race cars. It is in particular the Cup classes which have since years presented exciting sport in the VLN races at the Nordschleife, the greatest and most demanding race track of the world. In 2017 again, BMW, Opel, Porsche and Toyota will organise the total of five Cups in which 50 cars are registered up to today.

Another important group within the VLN is now as before the production car category. The regulations for cost-effective racing with series production based touring cars introduced by the VLN in 1994 (at that time still under the heading VLN series cars) has always been and still is extremely popular. For the year 2017, the teams have entered 39 production cars in the various cylinder capacity classes.

It is said that the new TCR class will certainly have a great future in the VLN. The standard regulations applicable all over the world for race cars with two-litres turbo engines was introduced in long-distance racing with a separate class in 2017. The brands of Audi, Honda, Opel, Peugeot, Seat and Volkswagen will be represented there. The number of registrations currently comes up to eleven cars.

Registrations are still open up to the third round of the season, the 59th ADAC ACAS H&R Cup on 24th June 2017. Those teams who wish to be eligible in the prize money classification thus still have enough time and the opportunity to join the VLN and to receive cash awards which will be issued to the most successful drivers at the end of the season.
