Theyʼve been waiting for it since September, trained throughout a very cold and long winter, some of them put up with long travels and spent a „fresh“ night on the camping ground – but all of this was nothing compared to what was awaiting them. The pure „Green Hell“! More than 10.000 brave runners were excited to overcome the race of their life. Bright sunshine, Mexican waves in the crowd and a lot of anticipation created a perfect atmosphere.
At 12 oʼclock the starting signal for the strongest race of all times was given! The following 20 minutes guaranteed the ultimate goose-bump-effect – that is how long it took until all runners have crossed the starting line! The track was more than 11 kilometers long, 15 spectacular obstacles were placed on the parcours which lead over the legendary Nuerburgring as well as the hills and forests around it.
In September, 99 hours after the start of registration, the 7th Fishermanʼs Friend StrongmanRun was sold out! Out of the 12.823 registrated runners 10.451 brave ones showed up, 9.000 men and 1.451 women.
Winner Felix Grelak reached the finisher line after 1:56:29 hours – hand in hand with the second placed Tom Schlegel (1:56:32). Third winner Christoph Lohse followed only 31 seconds later. Knut Höhler, four times winner of the Fishermanʼs Friend StrongmanRun, had to quit the race early because of an injury.
Fastest woman was Friederike Feil, who reached the goal within a top-time of 2:08:31. Carole Koster was second (2:15:35). Third out of the 1.400 women was Rhea Richter with 2:24:15.
Fastest Team were the runners of LG Holzbein n.e.V, consisting of Thomas Wittwer, Matthias Burkhart und Rainhard Machatschek.
Apart from the obstacles the participants arranged for the most spectacular pictures: Between runners wearing functional shirts and professional gear you could see Vikings, Smurfs, (male) Tomb Raiders, Avengers, Flash Gordons, Blues Brothers, Spidermans, Morph-Suites and heaps of other costumes spread over the whole track.
